When I finally start on the 86 ram 50, I will do a step by step pictorial on how to put the seats in these trucks. I will even make some drawings of adaptors that you will be able to make to get the seats in the right position for your needs. I want to see all of you get these seats in correctly and safely, after all I want to see you enjoy your trucks, not hate them.

Got any pics? I just don't get why you buckets sit so high. You must be real tall.

The rails for the 1st and second gen are almost identical, the only difference is in the mechanism that makes the seat slide. They are interchangeable, the bolt pattern length and thread in the cab is the same.

Hurrray! finally. Now go get yourself a matching steering wheel cause it looks like doo-doo
and a center console would be cool also.

Be sure you go under truck and silicone those bolt ends.

When the bench finally died in my '90MM I put in some 2nd gen Honda Prelude seats I had from a parts car. I just used a generic mounting kit and the factory rails from the parts car and bolted them to the floor.
Now after reading this thread I'm going to see if the Prelude seats will mount up to the MM bench rails for my new '93MM.

I'm not sure what you are asking.
From reading this forum, I would be comfortable saying that the saet rails are the same across the generations of the truck.
I just wasn't smart enough to figure out to use them when I installed my seats, which seems such and obvious answer now.

Using the 'universal' mounting kit was a PITA. I easily mounted each seat a dozen times, cutting brackets and adding washers and spacers, trying to get the seats to sit straight and level.

When I go seat hunting, I usually look in the celica, or neons, and other sporty small cars. I look for a low styled seat because I don't like sitting up to much on the wheel. Make sure the seat hinges both directions and you get a good slide from the rails. Get a tough tweed fabric and try to stay away from valure or crushed corduroy because its hard to clean and gets dirty real fast. Look also for darker color seats, again, dirt can make a new seat look old fast. Our wrecking yards sells a pair of any seats you find for only about $14 to $17 for the pair. At those prices, you can find your carport collecting seats very quickly.
These are old IROC buckets that are being replaced soon while my truck is down getting rebuilt.

Bring a tape measure with you also. You can fudge an inch or so by bending the rail legs or remounting the rails. They don't always have to be a direct fit to make them work. Find your favorite seats and make them work.

they just needed to have a few holes drilled because the seats didnt match up with my holes in the floor so new holes and shortening the front brackets and re-welding them solved it all

    Brad,
Where did you get that console..Nice! I want one!! and buckets! I have new HP seats for the M3, so was going to recover the Vaders with cloth, and use them in my MMAx..the console would REALLY make it a nice and more modern, usable interior! Nice job OP on seat install!
Someone asked about first gen buckets install. My bought new in 1984 Ram 50 TD sport had buckets (VERY NICE and comfortable ones too, by the way!) Maybe find a pair and recover them? Some on here are parting a few out, tho not sure about seats...
