Smoking

It's a 1985 2.6 / Truck started smoking rely bad all of the sudden. I don't think it's the head gasket. at least there is no water in oil or bubbles in radiator when cold. Valve seals replaced a year ago and they look to be in place still. The number 1 plug fouls within a few minutes after running. Could this be caused by the jet valve? Is there a way to test? It looks like there threaded into the head. Can I just remove the valves and put plugs in? Thanks for the help.

There are jet valve delete kits available. No need to cut off the jet valve rocker arms during the delete procedure - just unscrew the rocker adjusters and remove them. Do a compression test and see what might be causing #1 to go bad. Don't dismiss the possibility of a cracked head or a blown ring. It may need a visual inspection to verify. Jet valve heads are prone to cracking, so be thorough when removing the head for the jet valve delete. It would be a good idea to source a non jet valve head in the event that your current head is toast.
