Hello all.

First question; not a car question. Can I edit my username? I thought I was MM24, but MMMM24 slipped by me on a sleepy/drinky night?!

A little intro:

I am 1993 Mighty Max owner. I have owned her since 1997, Drove her all over the PNW. When I got married and started a family, I parked the truck. For the past 15 years I have only driven the truck a few times a year. She runs great. Some minor/fixable pulling here and there, but a very solid truck overall.

My son is 15 and my wife and I had been thinking of buying a car for my son to drive when he turns 16, but then I decided to put the money into Mighty Max instead. Better with something I know than someone else's problems.

Right now. Mighty Max is at paint. Immediate plans are rims/tires, tint windows. Within a year I will get my 4g63T crate engine, transmission (?), narrow a Ford Explorer 8.8 rear end, upgrade breaks (I think).

My experience is minimal. Some I will try to do with a friend. The other, I will have to pay for. My most pressing question is what automatic transmission can I use with the 4g63T.

Thanks for reading!

Wish I could covince folks to keep their HD motorcycles & Mitsu trucks mostly original ~ money spent on education vocational or college is a better investment ~ maybe your son would be happy driving your truck..?
I should not preach but my 75 years of screw ups has taught me plenty...
I lived in South Everett for over 20 years before escaping to Hawaii...
Best Wishes

there are no rwd autos that are narrow block, they are all wideblocks if i remember correctly. if looking to go turbo just use your stock bottom end, its plenty strong. the stock pistons in the truck are the same as the 1.8l turbocharged cordia/tredia just bigger diameter.

my advice and what i would do if you want to go turbo

use the stock transmission and rear.

new valve stem seals

build a turbo exhaust manifold or source a tredia/cordia unit.

build a speeduino with an adapter to the stock harness.

remove the stock throttle body, replace with 1998 jeep Cherokee 4.0l. (it lines up with the stock one but you need to bore out the bolt holes),(the stock throttle body does not
use a stepper motor, it uses a bidirectional dc motor with a resistor to tell the stock ecm where the throttle plate is, its incompatible with speeduino)

build adapter from the stock idle control motor harness to run the stepper motor on the new throttle plate.

build adapter from stock tps sensor harness to run the jeep tps.

replace stock injectors with 450cc+ injectors.

advance cam timing 5 degrees. (gives more bottom end, the turbo will help it keep breathing on the top.)

OPTIONAL BUT RECOMMENDED https://www.viatrack.ca/

tune

Have fun.

just my 2 cents.

Thank you for the welcomes!

@xboxrox. I can understand where you are coming from. For clarity. I meant that we are putting the money into MM for me. Son will drive one of our cars.

@finalfighter. Appreciate the advice. 2 cents is twice as valuable as nothing! I think I'm going to pursue the route you suggested. I'm going to do some research and then start a build thread.

For anyone that cares. I will include a pic of MM out of paint. Some overspray that I need to address, but I am pretty happy with the look so far.

Do 4g63T "crate engine" exists

Some 93/4 Mmax/D50 came oem 4spd auto. Should bolt to your 2.4. Grab *everything* from the donor
Research if/how auto is controlled by auto ecu.... loom may be add-on
Some guy build webpage featured his 2.4 DOHC/auto trans Mmax. Said oem trans was actually some chrysler 904 variant ?
and performance parts available iirc. I posted the link somewhere on this site

CAS in 2.4 distributor same as DSM, so u can technicly run ALL DSM ecu/electronics. Don't recall if truck has knock sensor
Some starion 2.6 run megasquirt by adapting the 2.4 truck distributor/CAS. Same ecu will suit the 2.4 perfectly

Non usa 2.0 starion oem manifold better suited, as its RWD and usa starion turbos bolt on. Of course, custom is best

Hi Dash! Thanks for stopping by.

This is the engine I mentioned: https://www.jegs.com/i/ATK-Engines/059/228E/10002/-1

I would be interested to find that webpage where the person featured his 2.4 DOHC/auto trans.

Stumbled accross the site in my notes: https://www.sixsigmatuning.com/mightymax-swaps
Excellent tips for an auto trans DOHC truck. Sound like the oe 4spd only required a TV cable
Some guy(sound experienced with DSMs) warned his 3 2.4 truck blocks cracked ~450-500hp. All the same place

Not a straightfoward swap by any means, so plan on more downtime. Or buid a separate powertrain alongside

A basic 4G63t Swapped Mighty Max with the oem auto/904(narrow block in this case): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WLv4mO6Ygs
Solid basis for fast mini - mild to wild. Moderate auto tranny mods. Torquey even with a stock 2.0 head & block
Lots of DSM swap-truck build details, this site & on the web
