Rear Axle Run Out and Brake Question

Something is causing my drivers side rear brake to overheat and I
can't figure it out. Everything is new but still troubleshooting.

Book calls for .039 max. run out. I'm running at .030. Flange squareness .0024. I'm running at .002.

I was suspecting the axle but I can eliminate as it is within tolerance.

Any suggestions what is causing my rear L brake to run hot. The passenger side is fine.

I tried completely backing off the adjuster. No go.
The brake cylinder is new. It stops the drum when the brakes are applied and releases it when released. So that's a no go.

I am stumped?

#1 When the shoes are on the backing plate. Is the long one on the front or rear?
#2 when the drum is on and the brake off. does it turn free with out any noise?
#3 did you use a safe set tool when setting the adjuster?

#4 Are you 100% the parking brake is off or un-adjusted enough?
#5 How much free play do you have on the pedal before the push rod hits the plunger on the master? it should be 1/8 inch.
#6 How many miles are on the new shoes? They will run hot for a while tell they break in.
#7 How hot is Hot? can't touch it, can touch it for X seconds, or so hot it's smoking?

If the axle or housing was bent the dif would get hot.

I want to thank you for the post. I will investigate some of the possibilities.
The long one is on the rear.
There is no noise for the second.
I did not use a safe tool.

All the others I will investigate.

I know if you have the shoes on backwards they will just lock up the tires when hitting the brakes. They don't like to just slow down. Makes for fun driving in the rain. Whoops.
