Howdy

Howdy guys/girls! Just stumbled across the site while looking for info on my 89 RAM50. Got it from my grandfather needing a carb, in near perfect condition with the exception of the clear-coat peeling off. Slapped on a Weber 34 DGEC and stripped a few pounds of vacuum lines and it seems to be a decent little truck. It's the 2.6L, seems to have plenty of power for my purposes, except at above 60 mph, then it likes to shift in and out of OD all the time. Anybody know if a header and 2.5" pipes will help that issue? I'm not looking for anything real fast, I just want to go 75 on the interstate without wearing out my tranny. Overall I love the little truck but I wish it were a 4x4.

Itd help for sure. Might wanna look into a gear swap truck probly has 3.545s, 3.909s would make her a bit zappier

Welcome to the site. Might ask Lethal Ethan if he experienced any similar problems. I bought his 88 Ram50 with 2.6 auto. The transmission was shot! If ya need any parts in the future you can't find locally, Max50 is a good guy to buy parts off. I know there are some others around here with some parts collecting dust like me. I have pulled the 2.6, 5 spd trans and Starion turbo parts here, just hit me up if ya need something. I'm sorry I can't be of more help, hopefully some of the motorheads answer up shortly.

I'll bet the OD relay is bad. It's way up under the dash on the left hand side. Should have a round metal cap on it. This was bad in my truck and it would shift in and out of od or sometimes the od would not work at all. The auto transmission in my truck had a whole nother reason for being shot hahaha. The 2.5 pipes and header sound like a good idea :handgestures-thumbup:

The shifting in and out could be the kickdown cable adjustment; its very touchy and its easy to go from no downshifts to up and down with little movement on the cable. make sure your adaptor puts the cable in the same position as stock and doesn't bind. If its out far enough, the tranny will fry! A fluid change can't hurt if the o/d issue is all you have wrong; the filter in the tranny is a screen and can be cleaned.

All the guys on 4x4wire swear up and down that the only thing to run thru a mitsu auto is mitsu genuine ATF, I just bout a case of it for my montero.
