    Slam 50

This is a build thread for my '88 Dodge Ram 50. I purchased this truck for dirt cheap and figure it will be a good 3-4 year project to accomplish what I have in mind for it.

    IMG_1825.jpg

What I've done since the purchase date of 10/28/12...

Removed the damaged tailgate which was jammed in the closed position for a number of years according to previous owner
    Registration + Insurance
Replaced wiper arms (found at junk yard)
Replaced passenger seat belt receiver buckle (found at junk yard)
    New wiper blades
Oil/filter change... looked as though it hadn't been changed in over a year
    Replaced the air filter
    Replaced drive belt
    Topped off brake fluid

    current to do list...

    Clean carburetor
Replace valve cover gasket and grommets
    Clean up engine bay
    Bleed brake line
    Check for any other leaks

I have been driving it around town. Longest trip so far was 40+ miles one way (mostly freeway). I've gotten to know this truck pretty well over the last month. It's been talking to me and I'm enjoying the bonding time. It still has a little hick up, periodically, between 70-75 mph. It was worse prior to the Oil/filter/air filter change. Hoping cleaning the carb will rid of it.

Full custom mini truck. Custom rear section, 3 or 4 link, air bags, custom interior, custom single color. It'll be a long process, but that's what I'm shooting for. As for now I just want to make sure it runs smooth and doesn't leak. It'll be my stand by transportation until I've gotten to a satisfying point on my other ride...

Hahaha... I've actually done some routine tune-up stuff and that hiccup has subsided... until today :/ I've put 2500 miles on it since I bought it. It's running much better than the day I brought it home but still lacking the power I desire.

How'd you go about cleaning that ikeepz? As soon as I get a new gasket I'm doing that exact thing. Guaranteed gunkified EGR.

Thanks for the advice. I'll look into that. Lately I've been experiencing some slipping in 3rd and 4th gear too. I'm coming up on 3000 miles since I got it and possibly just gonna opt to do a swap instead of investing too much into the gutless carbed 4g63.

welcome! Im in da process of putting a build thread together from my truck and i'll put a bunch of info in there. just needa organize a bunch of shit, order a few misc. parts, etc. so the thread is on da back burner for da next few days at least.

and btw, what do u mean "slipping in 3rd and 4th"? i thought its a 5 spd. maybe ur clutch is about to give..but if thats da case u'd see it in all gears not just some.
