    88 2.6 ignition prob. no spark!

    Hi there, my dad was driving and all of a sudden the truck shut off we have fuel but no spark, got new distributor and nothing and all of a sudden no spark at the coil and then there is. Its so weird. I get combustion(back fire) at times when I turn the key off. We suspected a bad switch got one that works but no difference. We tested the coil and resistor and they are fine. I can here the relay click. All this and still no spark what am I missing here? Also I put a test light to the possitive on the coil when switch is on and light turns on.

    sounds like you need to go distributorless. its easy to do and about $250 if you do it yourself. the gains are huge in gas mileage and power. and it's also easier to diagnose a problem in the ignition system because it is seperate from the rest of the electrical components on the vehicle.

    was the dizzy "New" or a Used unit? If it was used then I would replace the Ignition Pick Up (ICM)

    There is a wire that is broken. You can only find the problem when it's not working. If you remove the distributer, put the coil wire on the coil and then close to a ground, you can turn the dist and see it there is spark. Then you can twist and pull on wires to figure out if it's the dist wires. Then you need to work your way back to the fuse box and then to the fusible link on the battery. Check everything for voltage.

    One more thing is it an auto or stick?

    Hey Ram, I'd like to see this also. Must be sensors to connect I'm sure, but grab all the info you can and parts locations, images and all would be a great help for people. Could possibly create a wiki on the forum to place it in or in performance mods.

    i went distributorless and it was the best thing i ever did for my truck. my 4x4 truck with 31's gets 24-26 mpg as opposed to the 18 that it got before.

    Idk lol I just cleanned up the distributor area and added a ground directly to the body and that's it.

    Just saved yourself $400 by doing it yourself. According to the Mechanics book of mysterious fixes and charges. WTG!
