Just recently purchased a 1981 Sport with 75k original miles that has been sitting since 1997. The guy i bought it from did a little bit of work on it after getting it out of indoor storage and lost interest and i bought it. I only drove it about half a mile total as the entire fuel system needed replaced. i have that all done but now but it has since lost oil pressure. The oil pressure gauge worked when i bought it all though it did not seem like it had much oil pressure. The head is new and looking down the oil fill everything inside the head looks new.
I changed the oil and filter and have started it for about a total of 2-3 minutes. I took the oil sensor out of the block and turned the motor over and no oil came out. I checked the oil filter and it did have oil in it so that confuses me a little bit. I have a sensor for it and installed it but that wont fix anything. Can this motor somehow lose prime in the oil pump? I am out of easy ideas and my thoughts were to pull the oil pan and check the pick up tube for blockage, o ring etc, gasket etc first. If that all looks good I tear into the front of the motor and possibly replace the oil pump.
does that sound like a decent strategy going forward?
is there anything else i can do to trouble shoot it before i get inside the motor?
