So I finally got around to the rear axle seal seep on my Ram 50. Pulled the drum brakes apart, pulled the axle out, pulled the locknut off and lock washer but now I can’t, for the life of me, get the bearing off. I can’t find any information on this process anywhere on the web. Everything is for 2wd or for a totally different axle. Common sense says that it’s not pressed on, otherwise why would it have a threaded axle nut to set the preload.
I’ve got it suspended with blocks of wood and have been smacking the splined end with a wood block and a hammer. While this has resulted in the bearing moving a 1/4” of distance down the axle, it’s not budging at all now that it’s right at the threaded section.
Do I just need to get this in a press to finish getting the bearing off? Does a more knowledgeable person the craft of mighty max wrenching have more wisdom to impart?
