"Lemme do that boss, I aint never fixed one O them"
OK it is back together. The needle bearings fell out of the grease they came packed in because of the heat. It was over 80 and the sun was on them as they sat on the table.
The u joints in spite of the one in the middle coming off as I described you are meant to push the cap off one side than push the other cap back out in the other direction. ??? Beats me. They go on the same way in reverse. I suggest you put a side on by hand then hammer it down a bit then do the other side. then after the caps are hammered in flush on the outside of the U, press or hammer them down just until the slot for the snap ring to fit is exposed. Be careful they can go crooked and that sucks. And if you hammer them too far you have to press them back. The center part is supposed to float not rub on the cap top.
Back together not in the truck yet. Taking a break before I need it this time.
Edit 10-10-25 I put it back in the truck and put it in gear while till up on the jack stands to check for noises. It was quiet. I need to remove it again to get pictures of the slip yoke splines to get a replacement. Didn't think of it until the guy asked me. That will be a few days until the rain stops. I chipped some pieces off it through inexperience and a 20 ton press.
