    V5MT1 trans rebuild. Synchros

I have a 1990 and 1991 4x4 3.0 mighty max with the V5MT1 trans. 3rd gear was grinding but would go in with a double clutch easily. Figured synchro ring was out.
I disassembled the trans and started looking but all my internals looked good and came out fine when measuring tolerance. I am swapping all my synchro rings anyway. I purchased 4 rings as there are 4 to replace.
When comparing my old rings to the new ones there are some small differences like a wider cut out where the synchro key goes and a ridge added. Has anyone rebuilt this trans with new rings? They don't appear that they will operate any differently but I dont want to pull this trans again and disassemble it again. Not a fun job.

I was in the USNavy too but the only question I have is "can you also rebuild a KM145 5speed M/T and if so how much shipped to Hawaii..?" Thats all I know about transmissions ;^)

Hope it works good & IMHO go with the new parts and maybe consult with the synchro parts maker...

I ran them. Truck has the engine torn down but they work just fine by hand for now. We will see how they do when it's running. Transmissions are not hard to rebuild. Just take special tools to pull the bearings. Ebay has them.
    Good luck with your rebuild!

This transmission shifts smooth as butter on a hot sidewalk. Very pleased with results

Hey glad to see it was an easy fix. Did it come with different 2nd gear syncros? They supposedly upgraded those in the late 90's.
