On a stock ‘88, the fuel pump is attached to the cylinder head. It’s nestled between the thermostat housing, intake manifold and the carburetor. Remove the air cleaner and follow the fuel lines. The pump has three fuel lines, one in and two out. It’s mechanical and driven by the camshaft.
Some folks have converted to electric pumps but they’re mounted near and outside the tank or in the engine bay.
