I have seen this beauty sitting in my neighbors field for a few years after buying my wife's childhood home. She said it has been there for about 20 years. After doing some tractor work for the neighbors I inquired about if on behalf of my daughter who just turned 16 shares shares my affection for old boxy cars (I'm a VW guy). A few days after inquiring about it my neighbor text me that we can have it for free as long as we remove it from the field, he even had the key and is working on the title.
It is defiantly a project, but very promising from what we have seen so far. Not too much rust in all the "usual" places (drawing on my VW exp.). According to my neighbor, it ran and drove when parked, however it failed PA inspection for body rust. I'm guessing we will find some under the carpet. I pressed him on the frame and he said it was only body rust, not the frame. I will post more pics and updates as we go along. I will also be here a lot looking for guidance and advice. Thanks in advance and I look forward to posting more.
PS: One bonus is the truck came with both volumes of the factory repair manual!
Cabs and beds are out there even frames can be had if you’re willing to do the work it’s not as bad as it sounds really. I built a 88 4X4 starting with a good frame they are not extremely complicated and pretty universal parts wise. Do the regular internet searches then start cold calling junk yards you might find what you need.
I called around to many yards in MO a few weeks ago on a parts search nothing then I called one back and hit gold on a truck bed so you never know what the next call might bring.
