    Steering pump compatibility

I’ve got an 86 D50 RWD 2L. My steering pump has gone bad. I can’t find a rebuilt one anywhere. The various parts sites seem to think the 84-86 models have a unique pump, which also is different from the 4x4 and diesel versions. Is that true? Anywhere else I can look for a replacement pump?

Ok so I have a few possible sources. Old FWD Mitsubishi/Dodge with a SOHC 1.8 or 2.0 engine should have the same pump, belt and bracket assembly. Only difference is the FWD cars have a remote power steering fluid reservoir. If you can live with having the reservoir mounted to side of the engine bay somewhere you should be out of trouble.

That pump is the same as the older D50s as well. The integral pumps were changed out to remote reservoir pumps in 1981, but they reappeared on the g63b 2.0. I have 2 or 3 pumps of unknown condition, and I only need one for my 86. Let me figure out what I have and I will get back to you.
