I think I'm going to freshen up the bottom end too. Still debating deleting the balance shafts. I did a 3rz swap in my 4runner and left them out with no problems.

Made one last run today. Probably the last before yanking the engine. Helped a friend wake up an old motor home so we hauled jacks and tools with the ram 50. 200 mile round trio. The plugs were pretty fouled by the end running on 3 cylinders. Time to pull it and get it on the porch for a tear down.

Go the engine out today. I was pretty gooey.

A little oven cleaner or engine degreaser should clean that up pretty quick.

NON-CAUSTIC oven cleaner, to be specific.

Got it stripped down. Pretty good ring ridge and the crank is scored a bit. Off to get bored and turned...

So we were perplexed when we slapped a set of 31 inch tires on this pickup and it didn't even slow it down a little bit. Figured out why. Now that I have everything apart I decided to weigh the flywheel. 32.7 lbs! Most 4 cyl trucks have like 14 pound flywheels. 33 lbs is in league with heavyweight aftermarket flywheels.

    Here is a Toyota 22r flywheel at 24 pounds. I think I'll get a bigger flywheel next time I build a 22r.

Got the block and crank back. Bored .030 over. Crank is .010/.010. Painted it macaw blue.

you can lighten that flywheel by having the back ground down. I did that on Geronimo over 35 years ago and have not regretted it.

Ended up deleting the balance shafts. I noticed no more vibrations at all. Fresh engine running well . Retourqued head and readjusted valves hot this evening
