    Shift Knob

I have a 91 mighty max 5 speed manual, does anyone know how to remove the shift knob or if I have to take out the whole shaft. Trying to put a different knob on it if anyone has any tips.

The shifter knob just unscrews from the lever (standard right hand thread). If it spins the whole assembly you may need to put a pair of locking pliers on it and attempt to unscrew the knob. IIRC the thread is an M8 or M10. Do not try to remove the lever from the base as there is a big circlip and a rubber damper inside of the lever that will cause you grief (*fine if you are using a clamp-on aftermarket lever but a PITA to do. Advised to remove the whole shifter assembly and mounting plate from the gearbox and do it on a bench)

Some had a jam nut. But it’s safer to remove the stick and put it in a vise holding it with leather when unscrewing it. It only has a little pin in the base that keeps it from turning
