    Next step,
Pull the diff from My 88' max, clean, inspect, and start comparing parts.
I will keep a complete pic log here for anyone who is interested.

    picture repost,

As far as 'track truck', still in the research stages...
The clutch pack 'stack', # of discs, plates, and position
of bellville 'springs' are different between
    Montero
    Pajero(sp?)
    Starion
    D50 (Max),
I did not research any EVO config's.

More info... ( credit to mrbdesign.com.au)
Starions used 4 different differentials depending on engine and market.

    1) 3.55 "small crownwheel" diff (25 spline drive shafts) Australia
    Below pic...

    2) 3.55 "big crownwheel" diff (25 spline drive shafts) Australia, US, JDM, Europe
    3) 3.9 "big crownwheel" diff (25 spline drive shafts) Australia only 1987 JD model
    4) 3.55 "big crownwheel" diff (28 spline drive shafts) US, JDM, Europe 1989
    Below pic...

    .

NOTE: All differentials were available in LSD. However in most markets this was an option so lots of cars do not have a LSD.

So, I have a high crown 3.55 ratio, 28 spline 6 bolt axle carrier to work with.
as far as 8" carrier units go this is one of Mitsu's strongest.

More to follow as time permits.

    BUMP...
Thread's been sleeping for a while.
3.55 gear would be perfect for my application.
Guess I'll have to start really researching axle assemblies and interchange.
If I'm going to be doing hiway patrol, I'll need some easier gears to lower engine revs.
