Let's see if this works again...

    Finally!! Pix worky!

This is a pic of another Mighty Max (1988) that I sold to a friend.
I drove it back and forth from New York to Baton Rouge several times.
The first time I drove it to NY, it had a bad head gasket and used almost 4 quarts of oil. I did an "in frame" rebuild -
Rings, rod bearings, fresh head and re-seal. I added a Weber, header and 2.5" exhaust. It was a 5 speed/2.0 close port engine.
    It ran very strong.

It was totally minty - I replaced the hood, tailgate and driver door and repainted it. I wish I had kept it...
    Oh well.

Are you saying you're back to square one again and cannot upload photos here ? OMG..! BUMMER..! You'll figure it out & others will help too...

But Heck that's not a really, really big deal..! Wait till you get old & easily pissed like me and have to deal with government entities like Social Security..! I registered an online account at "My Social Security" just the way they tell you to do, and guess what..? They require a 2nd verification method to login & mine is to text my cell phone with a security code... This feature works ok from my bank website & other sites BUT NOT at social security website... Go figure it's the federal govt SUX..! So, no text ever comes to my phone from those yahoos & the only way to have another chance to login is to follow their directions to fill-in the blanks with your address & phone number... In 5 to 10 working days you will receive snail mail with another security code and instructions how to reset or change the way you receive & send 2nd verification security codes for logging IN... Well guess what? The same thing happens all over again & again & again &.... You get the idea; now that is real frustration and it can affect your fixed income paydays..! That's a big deal to me...

Try Google this problem with MY SOCIAL SECURITY <~ thousands if not millions of people are having the same problem with their website (for how many years now) F_CK..?
Could be worse, it could have been my truck involved in the rollover accident in the Harano tunnel this morning about 7:20am

The bureaucracy got you fired up xbox. Governments have the luxury of not having to deal with their own departments. Major PITA for normal people though. There has to be a back door into the solution. A friend of mine kept having issues with SS here in Australia and was getting pinballed around from department to department and kept on hold. Then he tried something that got results - he called their debt recovery line. Someone answered the call in 5 seconds and then he forced them to direct his inquiry to an internal hard line to the department he wanted. Showed how scummy social security behaves and how to get their attention...

when I retired & went to the SS office in Honolulu the guy at the window told me: "It's not my job to tell you how much SS you will get..!" Two weeks later they sent me a big fat letter with all the details I needed to know BUT I had to get our Senator Mazie Hirono's HELP

    Gents,
I never refer to my age, since you have referenced this...
I'm 68, and don't expect to ever retire.
Guess they'll have to plant me or something - from sitting in my field office

Just a curiosity - What happens to all of the $$ that premature death brings to those eligible for SS??????
I know of many who have no designated beneficiary and have passed on.
And the SS system is financially broke?
    Uh, no... more like broken

The government is robbing SS funds to pay for non eligible programs saying they will return the funds.
    Hahahahaha.
It all started with Ronny Reagan who recognized the cash cow of SS.
Don't believe me? Look it up.

I'm not politically inclined whatsoever... but... I'm also a Federal employee

    I have no more input.

I've noticed that this forum is seriously lacking in pictures.
I have tried to load pix - but it is a really haphazard function.
I have tons of pix for my thread, but it only works occasionally.
    What up?
I recently was successful, but the next time I tried... X

I think a lot of members were using file sharing sites like photobucket and imgur. Photobucket sabotaged their users and broke the links to posts all over the place in an effort to make them pay for the 'free' service they originally had. There was a patch that fixed that, but since the site has gone through an update there's been some teething issues with uploading directly to albums.

I have a ton of pictures to post but have not had any new success.
I wrote a book in the "what do you do for work" section and it vaporized. FTW.
I tied to post on tis tread and it also vanished.

I installed the header last Saturday and was going to take the truck to a muff shop to have a custom exhaust built...
    Well... Guess where I am?
Yez, in the land of fruits and nuts - California.

I called a shop named "Muffler Man" and described what I was hoping too have done.
The tech immediately said that converters have skyrocketed in price and from what I described, it would cost a few clicks under $1000(??) He said a cat would cost about $675. I told him I would provide a Spin Tech muffy...
I went to eBay, and found a 2.25" California certified cat is about $175...
    So, this ain't happening.

I was considering going to Cardboard Freight and buying their high end TIG welder, but that would require shielding gas, rental of a tank -blah.
So, I guess I'm going to have to use a cheap azzed flux MIG.
The king of bird crap welds.

I'm going to rent a car until I figure this out somehow.
The truck is so loud - it gives me a headache.

    So much for improvements.

Yeah, Kalifornyastan has lost the plot. You might be able to find a mom-and-pop run business that will do it cheaper. I don't know where these guys get off. The mark up alone on their stuff is scary. I used to be able to get a custom stainless exhaust from the flange back at a reasonable price but those days are long gone...

WOW where to begin..? I consider myself lucky (sorta) being a guy who was a professional welder & pipefitter for nearly 35 years AND a guy without his own home 'n garage ~ I paid about $225.00 6 months ago to have a shop next to our apt bldg install a near oem stock looking round muffler they sourced from carquest ~ muffler about $60 ish to $70 ish ~ all else labor 'n tax ~ they kept our truck 2 1/2 days to allow the muffler sealer goop to dry over all the chicken sh_t welds they tried to perform ~ they said the goop was needed to stop all the exhaust gas leaks at the weld joints ~ at least they were honest & I know the guy from church, he is even older than me ~ I am mellow about it...

OK my tip for you boozehero ~ in the mainland, I got some good & fair priced exhaust system work done by asking my Chevrolet dealer who they use to repair exhaust system stuff on the cars they service ~ sure enuff the shop they referred me to was just down the road from them & fair priced 'n performed high quality work...

    good hunting Sir

    A month and change later...
    I bought a KM 132 on eBay for $400 including shipping. It was advertised to fit a '79 - '80 2.6 or 2.0.
Well, after pulling the 4 speed out... you KNOW the 5 speed didn't fit. It's for the wide block engines.
Yeah, I was really happy about that.

I am currently in Seattle, WA visiting my GF. I did a search at Pick n Pull and found 1 truck in a 250 mile radius from here.
    It's an '86 with a 2.0/5 speed.
I went to the yard and the engine is already out, the transmission is hanging by the 2 mounting studs.
I had decent clothes on so I couldn't get into the engine bay and measure the bell.
I'm going back today and hope this is a NARROW block transmission.
    Truth will be told soon.
I'll be posting the wide block KM 132 transmission (for sale) here soon.

Ever seen a Spin Tech muff?

Not sure how many pix I can post at one time.
I figured out the pic issue. I have to resize them for the forum to be able to post.

I Bought a Cali certified cat and built the exhaust from the headers to the cat (2.5" pipe)
I hung it all at the factory locations, so it looks and fits like it the factory installed it.
I then took it to a muff shop and had them build a tailpipe (2.25") behind a Spin Tech muff.
The truck is relatively quiet until you open the Weber. It howls at about 3000 RPM and continues to the red line.
The power is totally incredible compared to the stock exhaust.
I found the exhaust manifold was cracked, and the internal cat was also partially plugged.
I also noticed that the 32/36 Weber runs super lean at higher RPMs now.
Pollution? I bought a 38/38 Weber "Outlaw" carb. I'll be installing it soon.
Needless to say, it is a completely different truck now.

    SCORE!!
Went to the Pick-N-Pull in Arlington, WA.
The transmission dropped out in 20 minutes.
I found a duck with teeth!! (Some may call it a unicorn)
It is the correct unit for a narrow block. I took a 13 month guarantee on it too.
It's a nasty, grubby looking unit, but I am pretty sure all of the oil was from the engine.
It even had a new clutch plate and TO bearing with it.

Next: Total shine job, remove the bottom plate and clean everything inside, then install.

Pix coming to a theater near you - soon.

Yep. Pictures need to be semi small to save space on the server. The board does try to resize them but if the file is to large it has a fit.
