So the factory manual says 6 qts of oil with filter but my dipstick says max 3.8? My children manual says 5.75 also. What is the correct amount?

3.8 is referring to litres. Online says 3.5 litres for sump, 0.5 for filter. I'd prime a new filter and have 3 litres measured up. Add 2.5 litres and check the oil level, then top up and check as you go. If you can fit a bigger capacity filter, go for it. Extra oil and filtration area is a bonus.

^sorry. Online was referring to forums. I pulled the data off this site - https://oil-change.info/mitsubishi-p...-oil-capacity/

Most Mitsubishi 4 cylinder engines are around the 3.5 litre oil capacity mark.
