About to swap montero 91 LSD v6 onto a 91 dodge power ram 50 v6, need help

I just bought a limited slip differential from a montero for the back and the front differential from the same montero to match the gearing. I was told I need to match gearing in both front and back to make this work. It's my understanding that my gearing is 4.22 right now and the montero is something like 4.6. I'm wondering what will be required of me to swap both differentials and if anyone has performed this before. Any help is appreciated.

Well, if you want to keep your current gearing just pull your ring gear out of your rear diff, put it on the LSD carrier and put it in. That's what I did with my truck. If you do that you also won't need to swap the front diff unless you have an LSD for it too

do you know if our v6 have 9" carriers? i was told the montero has a 9" carrier. what you said is what someone else recommended on facebook. that sounds like the easier option for me.

Correct, the easier route would be to just pull the 3rd member and swap in the LSD and keep the same gearing unless you plan to run taller tires 33”+. You will have to have someone reset your backlash though.

Great question. Ours and all 3.0L Mitsubishi’s trucks/SUV’s are 9”. All 3.5L’s are backed by 9.5” axles. And no the 3rd members are not interchangeable. I would verify that your axle came from a 3.0L.
