    Oil Leak

    IMG_0290.jpg

I posted a while back about a leaking oil pump gear seal. Before it was a puddle of oil. Now if you look at the cardboard under the truck there is a splatter of oil coming off the timing belt. On the 2 seals installed I seated them into the case which set back about a eighth of an inch this time installing the seal I seated it flush to the front of the case. On the rebuild I did not pull the front case off of the motor I only replaced the 3 seals and the o-ring. As you can see I have power washed the paint off the pulleys trying to find this leak it is driving me crazy. Any suggestions at All??
    Thanks in advance.

Only thing you can do is pull the oil pump and check it over. If the oil pump driven shaft is worn or you simply just got a bad seal, there's not a lot you can do with the current situation. You may need to think about a new oil pump assembly. Make sure that if you order a new one, it's for a 6 bolt crank engine as the 7 bolt has a curved base and the sump won't bolt up to it. Lucky this is a belt driven engine or this would be a lot trickier to pull apart...

Looks like it's going to be ether the crank pulley has a grove or the oil pump shaft.
The rubber will wear a grove in the steel.

I have finally solved the mystery oil leak. This truck has leaked oil since the day I bought it 22 yrs. ago. After seal after seal I have finally solved the problem. Drove the truck over the weekend about 80 miles 1/2 quart of oil gone. Nobody will believe where the oil was coming from!!! Well here goes and I would recommend this to anybody that removes their oil pump drive gear. The shaft that the gear mounts on has a shoulder (like a shoulder bolt for your lawn mower wheel. The nut has a stopping point it can only go so far as for the wheel to turn.) the nut had stopped was torqued to specifications. Where the nut had stopped was enough room for the oil pressure to pump oil down the shaft to the nut then sling the oil as in the picture from about 8 months ago. I removed the nut from the shaft put a nice layer of RTV over the threads finger tightened the bolt, removed excess sealant and about 45 min. later torqued nut to specifications. 20 yr leak solved.

Thanks. I hope this will help anyone with this problem. With the timing belt cover installed you could not really see what was going on, have been working on the truck for about a year rebuilt motor left cover off to check for leaks and have put in many seals. But the problem is solved and that is what the forum is for. I hope one day this thread helps someone as a lot of threads on mightyram50 have helped me.
