    Transmission for 3.3/3.8L swap

So I have done some digging and apparently a NSG 370 isnt good with a 250 + hp V6. The crank and cam and heads and intake and TPS reset push it really far (throttle restricted to 70%) and can make in excess of 250 HP and 300 TQ. However the NSG is hardly capable of this kind of power. I would like to know what transmission can I use? 5 speed or 6 is fine I just want a decent overdrive and a manual.

I think you need to stay with a 5 speed manual transmission. Unless it's an exotic 6 speed, they seem to be used on lower output engines (the extra leg makes up for lack of HP and torque for acceleration) The specs say the NSG370 max torque capacity is 272 ft-lbs. I'm sort of surprised this trans was sourced from Mercedes but at the same time I'm not due to how far short it falls in regards to strength...

Mercedes started cutting corners when they took over Chrysler - they corrupted their build quality the same as they did to Mitsubishi. Remember that Mitsu pulled out of DSM because Chrysler wanted to cut the quality too low for Mitsu to tolerate...

Murky-D's. Not the German injahneered quality product you'd expect. They're now built to fail

yeah. i did find a tremec tr4050 that has an adapter kit for the 3.3/3.8 but upon further gear ratio inspection I have found that a 6.16 first doesn't seem ideal except for offloading, so to me its mostly a 4 speed w a deep overdrive. now if I go with the 33's ill have to back up to the factory 3.91 rear end. the twin turbos and a ECU remap and TPS reset will allow it to push 350 HP and almost 400 TQ, alot of power for the rear end and the tranny. I know a guy who can make custom heads and pistons (machine shop friend, always good to have when you got a mitsubishi/ 80's dodge lol) and exhaust and intake for it. I just need to source up a plan and an airbox and my fuel cell.

you can get different gear sets for the tremecs depending on your needs, or at least you used to be able to...

300hp is a heck of a lot for a little truck. they are light weight as is is, and no weight over the rear.

In 4x4 you have 100% weight over the driving wheels, so that eliminates the grip issue.

And 300 hp is what I would get with a turbocharged version (which is down the road) but even then a real twin turbo setup is going to push ne more towards 350 to 400 with an intercooler and intake mods as well as bigger injectors and ECU remap. Or I can have the engine completely blueprinted for free by a freind who k kws what he is doing and I can start to push 450. Basically I am looking at making a noisy, expensive, fast and fun coffin on wheels.
