Good question. Transformer type coils develop a stronger spark than the OEM oil filled coils. Should provide better fuel economy and be more stable at higher rpms. Logically also should have a positive effect on emissions I did use an aftermarket Bosch T coil on my Colt project but as I'd changed engines and added a custom rally exhaust I wouldn't be able to single out how much difference it made (I did get booted by it once - not cool)
