91 Mighty Max aftermarket ECU swap

Hello I'm new here and I was wondering if anybody has tried micro squirting a 91 Mighty Max with the 4g64 or if there is a better aftermarket ECU to switch to

Hi and welcome to mightyram. A programmable ECU will come down to what you've done to modify the engine. If it's still stock then I wouldn't change the ECU unless your truck is a 1990 model as there were issues with this year model ECU and engine peripherals. There are gains to be made by experimenting with ignition timing and tuning as the factory recommended tuning specs are a base line for worst case scenario engine starts. The Microsquirt appears to be one of the best budget/entry level stand alone ECU's, but without engine mods (cam, custom intake manifold, turbo etc) probably won't make any big power increases. Just my opinion - someone with real experience with programmable ECU's will be able to give you more insight.

If you arent boosted then your gains will be minimal on a 4cyl. I have a 1990 4x4 3.0L Max that I did a 3.8L MIVEC swap on. I ended up using the flashable ecu out of a 1998-99 3000GT to make it work properly. I left the stock wiring harness and just made a conversion harness to clip into.

    lowlife615,
    Check This Build
Not Mitsu, but the author was also tired of 30+ year old connectors , wiring, electronics , etc.
I was looking into a similar config, but cannot as I live in Ca.

which source for a flashable ecu, if one were to make an adapter harness" for the truck 2.4
Since the cam sensor is essentially DSM, I'm thinkin u can add a DSM ignitor & coilpack ?
LSRMike dtailed 'how to', by adding a couple pins iirc

I got mine from a 3000gt. 98-99. I made my own adapter harness.

I was asking which 'flashable' ecu choice suggested, but on second thought that route is a whole new learning curve
    As warned here: https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/i-...le-ecu.424494/

Starquestclub has a resident 'megasquirt' guru that has got more than a few turbo 2.6s up and running with minimal fuss
From basic fuel-only + distributor, to coil pack, to coil on plug sequential. Pick your poison
Some 2.6s on standalone, run the 2.4 truck distributor(with a spacer)... so "squirting" a 2.4 truck should be ez
Thats the route 'im going. Turbo 2.4 is final goal, so definitely worth it and necessary. Reasonably priced too

Possibly see 'modest' gains in driveability, fuel economy and performance... depending on how far from ideal/optimised any particular stock 2.4 tune is
