    1985 D50 2.0 Timing Belt.

Hey all! First time poster and new to the forum. Glad to have found this fountain of info! Hope you all can help me out! I have an 85 d50 with the 2.0. Just got it a week ago basically for free! She isn't in fantastic shape and she didn't run when I got her. The guy I got it from had it die on him about 8 years ago and couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. I am an ASE Master Tech and felt up to the challenge. I towed it to the shop and had it running within an hour! Cat was plugged up. Lucky for me, in the previous owners quest to get it running he put on a Weber carb and all new tune up parts! I also have 3 original carbs in a box. So to get to the point...I need a timing belt bad!!! I can't find one that fits it. I have tried a Gates, Goodyear, Continental, Mitsobishi, and a Pirelli. All have the wrong teeth cut into the belt. My pulleys have square cut teeth and all the belts, except the Pirelli have round teeth. The Pirelli has square cut teeth but the teeth are too tall! Please point me in a brand that has the correct teeth. Cam pulley is cast if that helps!

and the problem with Round Teeth is?

I'd say Mitsubishi has the right part...PM me the VIN Number and I'll give you the Mitsu P/N.

Ok I ran Caps, the Mitsu Parts Program. and since you have a K02T I didn't need your VIN, there is only one Replacement P/N for a 2.0 Timing Belt MD140228

The belt you have sent me to is a "curvilinear" belt. I need a "trapezoidal" belt. Don't think putting a wrong belt on an interference engine is a good idea. The spacing with the curvilinear belt teeth isn't the same as trapezoidal. Looks like I hvae some crazy odd ball engine here.

Check your Firewall tag for what the Truck came from the factory with, then check the engine Block ID see if they match.

and you can PM you VIN and I'll be able to see what it was manufactured with and the date. 85 with a 2.0 is fishy...

Tag on firewall say G63B. Catalyst on hood say 1985 model year and FMT2.0T2FFDX. There are 3 engines listed for a 85, 2.6 2.3 2.0. 2.3 is a diesel. So that leaves two options.... 2.0 or 2.6. Seeing as how the alternator is on the passanger side.....Makes it a 2.0. Not sure why the 2.0 in an 85 would be "fishy". Where can I find the Block ID?

If its a 2.0 g63b then the engine id is on the pass side of block behind/below the alt., same with g54b.

could someone at least explain to me why it is hard to believe that I have a 2.0? I am an ASE Master Tech, not a do it yourselfer. I wouldn't doubt that this is not the original engine. I would like to figure out what I have so I know for future reference how to locate parts for it.

BTW, I have a timing belt on order, it will be here in the morning and I am 99.9% sure it is the right one. It is a Gates T013. 122 teeth 19mm wide 45.75" long and has trapazoidal teeth. Took a lot of research to find it. Near as I can tell it fits late 70's dodge/plymouth 1.6l as well as late 70's pintos.

Could someone have put a 1.6 in my truck? I have alldata and Haynes manuals. I also have Autodata timing belt book. They all show the exact pictures of my engine and say it is a 2.0. I have also talked to a Mitsu specialist who says that some of these engines came with these diff belts and they were supposed to have the pulleys changed at the first belt replacement interval. I just need some help clarifying some stuff...

Well, I had a 1987 Mighty Max with a 2.0 G63B in it, Have you ever tried looking up the belt for a 1987-1989 Ram 50? They may have put a newer G63B in, I don't know if they changed between 1985 and 1987. Or it could be out of a Starion, which I believed used a slightingly different G63B. Just putting some thoughts out there. Or as you said, they may have changed the pulleys at one time, but whoever owned yours never got it serviced?

belt turned out to be a Gates T013. 122 TRAPEZOIDAL teeth, 19mm wide and 45.75" wide. Engine is a G63B.

You can look in the WIKI under engine type and markings. That might help you get a line on what it is.

i was wondering what that meant too. and to my knowledge, and research, there isn't a better informed site when it comes to the astron family of engines. and, mike05307, i called my local knechts auto parts store and they list two belts for the 2.0, the one you are talking about and the one LSR mentioned. maybe you should make sure your parts distributor is competent.

Exactly, there are a bunch of knowledgeable people on here, his motor is in the Sirius family btw. I agree with PowerRam, maybe you need a better parts source. One quick search for me on rockauto.com for 85 2.0 and I pull up a few of the belts you need with the TRAPEZOIDAL teeth. AC/Delco, Gates, etc..

Please get your head out of your butt, people here are trying to help you. Big Freaking deal you're a ASE Master tech, any monkey that has ever worked on a chevy can pass that. In the 30 years I have been building car/truck you sometimes run into odd ball stuff and have to do a little research to solve the problem. I see stuff like this between Japanese built stuff that's re-badged for North America. Then is it for the US or Canada, sometimes something built for Canada ends up in the US to finish up the ordered amount,or the other way around.

i'm thinking that he maybe has a 4g52 in his truck. they were used from 1979-89 in the d50's. i am not sure if they have timing belt or timing chain though??? just a thought.

Then again it might have a 1.3L Zastava Koral. You never know what some one may have put in there. I have seen stranger things.

g52b is an Astron like the g54b so it has a timing chain. He already confirmed he had a g63b, which did come in those year trucks.

To come on to a forum and say its lacking because we didn't have the answer immediately is really arrogant and rude - not the way to get help with a problem. No one wants to hear you're an ASE Master Tech and we don't know these trucks - this forum has the most info on these trucks anywhere and will find the answers if we don't have them. I suggest you come up with an apology for your statements or you won't find such willing members for your problems the next time. Look at the posts in this forum before you condemn it.

If the bio is correct and his age is late 20s. We have all been there. So it's time to just turn off the flame. But I do appreciate the way everyone defends there site like a pack of Wolverines. But please, everyone play nicely.

Besides, I found this with a quick finger to the Google hole. He was just lost, looking for some answers on what someone put in there. Give the guy some time, he will learn that these trucks and engines interchange parts from Forklifts, and Mini Vans, to Farm Orchard Sprayers.
    Look familiar?????????

Pennyman is correct in saying that you won't find another forum with members that are willing to go out of there way to help someone. Please, take look around. You will find guys giving away parts and there time for free, or going to a pick and pull getting a part for someone and only charging cost for the part and shipping. This is why we have such a large pool of donators.
So try not to take it to personal.

LSR. You really need to add in a price tag on that picture. Like the ones you see on late night infomercials.
    Not 2,999
    Not 3,999
But an amazing low price of 14,499 But weight theres more. It also comes with the Bonneville speed certifications of over 150 Miles Per Hour. Don't delay, buy it today.
    Your dog will thank you....

Love the Dog, but the commercial, should be more in the line of the Mastercard ones..

    Hotel at Bonneville, = $200 a Night.
    Race Fuel, = $5.00 a Gallon.
    (2) Bonneville Salt Flats Record, = Priceless!
