92 Mighty Max 4wd Transfer Case

    Hi Guys,

New to the site. I'm looking for a transfer case for my 92 Mighty Max 4wd. It has the 3.0L 6G72 with the V5MT1 manual transmission. I've looked around a bit on the web and it sounds like the KM100 transfer case is what I'm looking for? Just looking for verification before I track one down.

    Cheers,
    Jamie

I cant recall what the TC number is, but you can look to same year Montero's as well as newer Sports for parts. The last year of the V5MT1 in the states was 1998 I believe.

Thanks! I've located an MB886956 transfer case at a salvage yard that should fit. Doing a bit more research before I pay to have this thing shipped to me.

Went and checked out the Montero at the pick n pull.. it was an AT so not compatible. If I understand correctly are all first and second gen monteros with the 3.0 v6 and manual trans going to have a compatible transfer case with my 92 mighty max?

I know the first gen Monteros will be the same, second gens should be the same up to whatever year they got rid of front autolocking hubs. Then they changed sensors and the housing a little. It should bolt up though and work. My 98 Montero Sport 3.0L Trans and TC is identical except for the throw-out arm on the trans, 4wd lock sensor, speed sensor (electric vs cable but can swap out), and a few other minor things. 3rd gens are a no as they are completely different and no manuals.

Just wanted to close this one out. I ended up tracking down a transfer case from a 91 Dodge D50. Exact fit. The Mighty Max is up and running again!
