I still think something simple is wrong because this truck starts right up, idles at 800 and has good compression and oil pressure. It barely goes down the freeway at 70 mph and takes 10 mile to get up to that. If I short out the timing wire to set the timing it now longer slows down the engine like it did in the beginning. Putting the timing wire to ground has no effect so I am not sure the timing is correct.
Also when I fully turn the steering to either side while starting out I get a loud popping sound. I replaced the idler arm and I get no shaking or shimmy or pulling going down the freeway but the steering is soft feeling.

Thoughts?
