Found this link that has photos of near new Gen 1 Ram 50...

Nice to see what original stuff looked like... I notice the dash is slightly arched by the steering wheel; my dash is raised at that area a little also, thought it was sun damaged... Guess not...

Please share if you spot some other original aspect of the Gen 1 truck...

that is the correct steering wheel - it matches the column, but may have faded some over the years.

This early Gen 1 (1982) has a 2.0L engine w/4 speed manual transmission ~ some later years have a 2.6L and 5 speed tranny... I notice the air cleaner is blue color, later years it's black...

The 1982 coolant fill tank has no drain hose; my 1986 has a short clear drain hose off the tank's cap...

Yeah they have that ridiculously big centre pad and those dinky round horn buttons on the steering wheel arms. I have no idea what they were thinking. The black 3 spoke wheels with the round centre pad are the nicest out of the 3 options.

My horn buttons don't honk (more like a quack) unless the key is on or the truck is running... A quick flick of sounding the horn at my friends makes them laugh, he, he...

Give it a shot of WD40 and maybe tweak the adjuster screw on it. You want people to get out of your way not laugh at you

geezer, no kidding..? I'll do it just to see if you're only teasing + maybe learn something new + maybe have a real safety device..!

FWIW, I converted that old 1955 Ford I once owned from 6 volt to 12 volt using parts from a wrecked 1956 Ford sedan... I kept the original 6 volt horns coz with 12 volts they SCREAMED "Get outta my way"

I've had great luck with the $40 plastic trumpet air horn set that you can get at most any auto parts store. The ones that are in my truck were on my '82 nighthawk for several years. They are the shorter trumpet and have a high pitch sound. You better believe they hear me! My Falcon got the long trumpets with a much deeper sound after the original horns set fire to the wiring harness (no fuse from the factory!) I use the original horn wire to trigger a relay that drives the on demand compressor.

I've had success in the past with horns that sounded like they belonged in a cartoon. Over time the innards get corroded and it seems to have a dampening effect.

Interesting stuff, everyone, thank you... Actually, I don't even know where the horns are located on these trucks & how many 1 or 2..? I'll get to it soon; been exploring how to transport two bikes in the bed...

I will be putting a NOS Road Runner Beep Beep horn on the truck I build for my wife Karen. She had a 73 Road Runner when they were new. I definitely need to run a relay with it - it draws about 40 amps and will burn the wiring right out of the truck. As a side note - the beep beep horn is really a military truck horn made by spartan.

I'm still planning a design for a two bike rack for the truck bed; spotted a few items at Goodwill & Salvation Army Family Stores today... Must wait for 20% off on Tuesday to buy... Don't give up on me yet cookieking... Not having a garage anymore does not make this project go faster...IF & when I get done, will make a "DIY Bike Rack" thread w/ pics...
