Nobody has this in their 2nd Gen? Could it be a 4wd thing?

Not sure which button you’re referring to. Where is it located? Got a picture of it?

I'll take a pic in a few hours when the sun rises. Might be a 4wd thing?

It is 4wd related but it isn’t on my 88 so I don’t know it’s purpose or function. Do you have or can you get an owners manual for the truck? It should explain the switch’s purpose and operation.

Some Monteros had electric locking rear diffs or air operated locking diffs - it is possible that this truck has one.

Not sure what a locking diff is. I'm guessing wheel related. Is it a good thing? Or irrelevant? Owner didn't know what it was when i asked him.

    No I can't get an owner's manual :/

@FMS88: you rock my man! That's exactly what it's for. Pressed the unlock button and was able to start the truck without stepping on the clutch. This will be useful in the mornings when I go out to start the car to defrost windows and warm up the cabin. In the 2 weeks that I've owned it, I've gone out to turn it on without getting in the truck only to find out that I need to step on the clutch, so I have to get inside the truck (freezing cold!) in order to step on the clutch, turn on heater, get out of the truck and return 10 minutes later. And we're only in October! Very useful feature.

Like one of the users, it won't "reset" until the truck is turned off. Meaning the light remains on. I will check and see if it remains unlocked when I turn the car off but leave key in idle more (think that's what it's called when radio/lights are still working but engine is off?).

Unlike another user, no light saying "locked" came on.
