    New and need some help

Hello I'm Gary, thank you for having me. I've been a Mitsubishi fan since owning a 1988 Mitsubishi cargo van in back in 1999.
I recently bought a 1985 Mitsubishi Montero that had been sitting for 20 years! In last few weeks I've cleaning it up and working on getting it road worthy. I plan on making it a daily driver. Recently ran into a road block when I can't find a Drive Plate aka Flex Plate. If anyone has one laying around they'd part with please let me know or if you know where to get a new one your information would be greatly appreciated.

Do you know what your flex plate looks like? It took me almost two years to find one for mine.

Not exactly. I know that the previous owner was in the process of installing the engine when he gave up on it 20 years ago. I can see paint marker on the flexplate that reads " ram 50 " which leads me to believe it's a used flexplate and it's definitely not right. It is too close to the starter and doesn't line up with torque converter. I'm going to pull the engine out soon to get a better look.

Try searching for a Pajero flexplate, (same truck different name) I see a few hits coming up for that. Suppliers here have them, but I'm other side of the globe

I searched Pajero but haven't found one yet. I figured that would be a sure thing given the over seas popularity.

Let me know if that's the one. I have a spare now, I don't really want to let it go but if it gets someone else up and running...

Thank you! I messaged you. Yes it will definitely go towards putting this Montero back on the road. This little problem almost had me ripping out the entire drive train and swapping to something more modern but I'd much rather keep it original.

Much thanks to haruman for the flex plate. I stayed at the shop till late last night installing the flex plate and I'm happy to report that after sitting 20 years this Montero runs and even goes into gear. Due to a lite schedule today I might even spend most the day changing the rest of the fluids and going over the brakes. See if I can get the Montero to drive around the block.

Some pics of the flex plates / issue. Correct one with three TC holes and large center hole. Wrong one with 6 TC holes and small center hole which was grinding on the Torque Converter.

Nice work Dr G. Expect it to spring some leaks from sitting so long.

Thank you! Valve cover gasket seems to be seeping already but that's no biggie. Engine looks to have all new gaskets but yeah sitting 20 years can't be good.

Made it to the gas station and back. About two miles round trip. Still need to do a lot but got it up to 50 mph. I'm really surprised how much is working well.

OOC - could use a die grinder to resize the centre bore on the torque converter? If this was the only thing actually wrong with it, a small mod could make it a serviceable spare part (guys are always looking for spare flex plates)

The offset on the ring gear was also wrong. The starter and ring gear were trashed because of it.
