Hello everyone I've had my truck for about 5 months now
I've been hanging around the forums reading reading
And finally decided to join
My truck is a1988 rwd 5 speed with a g63b
Its was kept in great condition by the original owner
Im hoping to swap the engine for something
For more power what would be my best option
From what ive been reading i assume i have the narrow block transmission
Hi and welcome to mightyram. You can use the tried and true 4G63 twin cam or twin cam turbo engine with the narrow 5 speed. This isn't a 100% straight forward bolt in upgrade as the engines' ancillaries require modifications (intake manifold needs throttle body cut and welded to the timing belt end of the manifold, thermostat housing needs to be relocated and the CAS will foul the firewall) but this swap has been done many times and there is a ton of info available. If you don't want to go for the full house power upgrade, you can use the bolt on mods like the 32/36 or 38DGES Weber carb, headers and exhaust and a wider duration cam with some port work to get the G63B breathing. The G63B is a rock solid engine as far as the bottom end goes and can be made to perform nicely.
Check the sticky threads in the performance mod section for info - http://www.mightyram50.net/vbulletin...-Modifications. Also read through members' build threads as well. It's all been done before and there are lots of things you can do to squeeze that extra muscle out of the engine without bankrupting yourself or having to do anything radical to get there
