    Montero LSD Swap Questions

I've done a fair amount of searching on this subject and there are a few more questions I have. From what I have read, my '88 2.0 2wd will need the smaller 8" diff out of a leaf spring car. I want to know what kind of LSD's are in the montero sports (clutch type, torsen, etc) and weather or not I can just take the third member out of the montero and bolt that in to the housing in my truck. If there is a thread somewhere with this info, I'd appreciate a link, otherwise, if anybody knows the answers to these I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks!

If its out of a late 80's Montero then it should be a clutch LSD. Mine came out of about an 86 or 87 and that's what it is.

Did you swap the axle or the gear(s) assembly?

if its out of a 1st gen Montero it will swap right in. A Montero sport can have 8" or 9" rears depending on year and motor.

Ok, so there's a 1997 montero sport at my local junk yard with the leaf spring rear end and I'm pretty sure it has an LSD. That should be the right one, right?

Be careful on price and condition. Last year I set up a group buy price with a company that had a number of the OEM units reboxed as Power Brute. They are the original Aisin mfg. unit as o.e.m. And brand new in the box. I believe the number was LOM 83 and was on EBay for a while after our purchase deal.

that is right - LOM83 , sold by power brute and some other company. Also the same as a dana 50, which is why these can still be found, as they are used in F150 ford pickups.

Well, I went to Pick n Pull to get what I thought was an LSD, but unfortunately a locked up rear brake had tricked me in to thinking it was, If I find the right one I'll try just swapping over the third member and report back how that goes.
