I am new to this so please bear with me. I really could use some help in keeping the best truck I have owned going so I need some help. Thhe trucks was already beat up exterior wise. But I been having problems with it leaking oil. Some where from the top of the head/ valve cover I believe and possibly leaking some tranny/gear oil. It has 140k on it with only surface rust on the frame and other than that trucks in damn good shape. I have pictures of it. Also some with close ups in the motor. I power washed it yesterday ( obviously just the areas where I kept a the wiring and hoses from being hit) I absolutely love this truck and will eventually be doing a engine swap when it hits the shitter. Just kuz how fun and durable it is. But for now I could use the help. My dad was a mechanic for 40 years and helped me just do the timing belt and water pump. I did cap rotors wires and plugs. Along with an exhaust leak. I think it needs a new fuel pump and it filter kuz it bugs out when I gas it at high Rpms also needs clutch eventually and most likely valve guide seals. Please help me keep this beauty on the road and beat rock crawlers with this stock mighty mother fucker. These trucks are so strong and drop jaws in 4 ft deep mud bogs lol.

Hi and welcome to mightyram. You dad will know what is going down with the oil leaks. Crank seals and timing cover seals/gaskets are the bigger of the jobs to tackle (rear crank seal is an engine out job - no way around it). Rocker covers aren't an awesome job on the V6 to do due to the intake manifold having to come off. Sump may only need the bolts needing tightening up. You gotta give Mitsubishi big kudos for their 4x4's, most guys buy a winch and have a Nissan or Toyota thrown in for free so it gets put to good use lol. We have a section especially for guys who are just getting their grasp on owning a Mitsubishi truck - pretty much a mandatory read for the noobs.

Oh, and something I discovered ages ago that has been a big help is an easy way to clean a filthy engine. I hate working on something that has leaked oil like the Exxon Valdez...

My dad is an old man with a lot of problems goin on right now. When I look after cleaning as much as I could I found some leaks by the fan maybe the seal is bad? But Definitely could be in some other spots too. I am gana try that cleaning trick that the video showed. But I’m also having a valve, lifter or something that’s ticking. I’m a self taught mechanic. Pops wasn’t the best at teaching lol he just handed us tools which I feel is the best way. But I really love this truck and try to take care of it so it will last hell im gettin offers for 3500. Their great trucks but I want t to be all secured. I had a exhaust leak and when I fixed t I actually lost mpg. Vacuume? I pretty much need to do a whole look over on it. I ordered the Haynes Manuel and was also wondering if I can check codes and if so how. The person who had Jt before me messed with the electrical. I would like to fix it. And my only option is having some one on here help when help is needed. (Which is usualy every 2 weeks on that paycheck I just don’t want to see this truck get beat down when it’s such a bad ass truck that can literally do and go anywhere. Also is there things like Pcv valves and other things I should check. Which I’ll knonwhere they are when I get the Manuel. I appreciate all the help. Honestly. This is an amazing site and love that I’m apart of it.
