    Gen 1 Pajero Transmission Swaps

    Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum, so, Hi! Looks like a wealth of knowledge on here.

I'm based down in New Zealand, and have a 1989 L049 Pajero, 4D56T, with a manual transmission. Unfortunately, that transmission decided to destroy itself recently. There aren't many Gen1's around down here, and I'm struggling to find a gearbox. I'm thinking of trying to fit one from a gen2, so I get the centre lockable diff

    Questions:

    1. Will a gen2 Pajero transmission from a 4D56 (completewith transfer box) fit straight in (I assume bellhousing and clutch etc are the same?) ?
    2. Will it slot straight in to standar mounting locations?
    3. Will my standard length drive/prop shafts fit, or will I need custom lengths?
    4. The speedo drive on a gen2 is electronic, but the hole looks to be the same as my transfer case. Will my mechanical drive bolt straight in?
    5. Has anyone carried this out already?
    6. Any other useful info?

    Any info/advice gratefully received.

    Thanks

    Charlie
