A stupid and/or crazy idea - converting a distributor to CAS

As per the title. I saw on a post a member had done the comparison of the truck distributor using the same innards as the CAS from the Eclipse. So I began to wonder - is it possible to convert the distributor to accept a CAS that can run a multi coil pack? It would mean modifying the distributor cap to only being a cover and the CAS would still need the vacuum advance mechanism in the distributor to operate as per standard. Is it doable? Has it been done!?!! DOES IT WORK!!!?!??!?!?!

you need a microsquirt module to make it work that way. Look for power348's thread on how he did the conversion.

Many years ago, Rod Hall of Baja fame used to race D50s off road against John Baker and others in the early 80's. He developed a crank triggered setup to fire the plugs that was rock steady, and used the distributor to route the spark. It was a strictly passive setup, no electronics used.

LSRMike detailed the truck vs DSM CAS on his webpages, and hot to wire pinout and his conversion. U can do the same with non turbo DSM donor
Some starion 2.6 run 2.4 distributor with DSM electronics... Nissan 2.4 dohc as well

I converted the truck motor to look like like a Turbo eclipse so I could use the AEM Fully programmable ECU for Racing. The Distributor and eclipse CAS use the same pinouts on the ECU Harness, all I had to do was run the extra wires for the Dual coil, the first coil wiring is identical (as is the rest of the wiring). I robbed the dual coil setup and Throttlebody from a junkyard eclipse. The throttlebody ISC & TPS is different also. while i was there, I cut off the ECU connectors about 4 inches back so I had plenty of donor pins to add the extra wires, Since I had them all I was able to match the color codes :-)

I will probably have to use a stand alone ignition set up to make this work. The Toyota,Datsun and Volvo guys are spoilt for options on this one as they're able to buy custom parts to do this mod.

don't c much point 'converting' to CAS and retaining archaic vacuum advance
what motor do u have, and what r u trying to accomplish ?
Mitsu gotcha covered 2.0, 2.4 or 2.6..... so what custom parts would u need ?
    Standalone is optional

I was considering 'neanderthal teching' the ignition system for multi coil set up. The easy way out is using a distributor from the 2.4 and going stand alone from that as a source. I have this fantasy of going 38-40mm quad bike carbs but I still haven't finished with my 34DATA Weber carb lol

the 2.4 dizzy + a way to tune ignition curve should suffice, without 'coil packs'. 500hp 2.6 starion run distributor
