Plastic timing covers
ny advice on replacing the plastic covers over the timing belt on a 1990 2.4. No mighty max or d50 at our local pull n save. will other vehicles fit. mine is warped so bad it rubs on the belts.

If you are in a bind try hitting it with a heat gun and forming it by hand.

Getting a timing cover can be tricky. 2G engines have a semi-circle shape at the front of the sump where the 1G engines are straight. Timing covers, sumps and front seal/oil pump housings aren't cross compatible. But all 1G single cam variants are cross compatible (4G6X)

I don't understand what you mean by 1G and 2G. I believe my engine is a 4G64 2.4l sohc

There was a change in design of the 4G6X engines - 1G denotes the earlier engines (first generation) that have a flat mounting face all round for the engine sump (like the truck engines) while the 2G engine (second generation) had a 'hump' made into the front of the sump. The heads still swap but most of the block/bottom end assemblies have differences.
