    Transfer case shift lever issue

Just about have the truck ready to go, but I have a issue with the transfer case shift lever. It engages into all 3 positions correctly but when I put the boot and rubber shield back on and screw the retaining ring on the tunnel the lever can't go back enought to get it in 2wd. I see that the tunnel is bent a little from the lever hitting it. I pulled the lever out and there isn't any extensive wear I cN SEE and it doesn't have the plastic shim I had to replace in the transmission so any help on how to shorten the throw or do I have to redesign the ring and tunnel so the shifter can engage.

Well yesterday I just made a bracket for the front of the boot ring and moved it back 3/4 inch and now everything works as it should. I almost feel like the drive train is to far back
