    oil leak

hey guys. I have a 88 D50 2 wheel dr. manual tran. 2.6 engine. I have oil leaking on the drivers side of my engine block under intake manifold. It is hard to see the area clearly but there seems to be some type of plate or cover bolted to the block and I think that is where my oil leak is coming from. Maybe the plate is maybe 2 inches by 6 inches. just a guess. I can't find a reference to it in my chiltons book. Any help on what this plate is would be appreciated. Jim

If it's what I'm thinking it is then that plate is a cover for the driver side balance shaft. It's just held on by a couple bolts and has a small rubber seal. If it's leaking the deal may have gone bad.

+1 on that. Not all 4G54s have them (think the later ones have the whole shebang cast into the block. It's a long, ovalled cover plate. Might only be loose cover bolts (?). If the seal is fragged you can get away with using RTV silicon sealant.
