    '89 Ram50 motor

Hey, I'm new to the site and looking for some insight. I've got an 89 Ram50 4x4 with the 4g54 2.6L (5 spd)in it, but the motor's see better days and is on it's last legs. My question is about fitting a 2.4L 4g64 out of a '92 Ram50 RWD (5spd) into my truck. in a dream world I'd like to keep the 4x4 operational. If anyone can tell me if the stock tranny from my 89 will bolt up to the 4g64 motor or not, or if you have any insight as to any other problems that may exist with the swap PLEASE help me out!

Yes the tranny will bolt up to the 4g64. Make sure bottom bellhousing bolt spacing is around 13.5" I think it is

Sounds great, any idea how far out the motor mounts would be for mounting up the 4g64 in the 89 chassis?

Motor mounts should bolt right up. No modification.

Has anyone out there done a swap similar to this (carb to efi)? any major issues with the wiring? got my 2.6L out and just waiting for a few more parts to arrive for the 2.4 and just looking at the wiring for the distributer ect. and it seems like a few ends don't have anywhere to lead to.

I have done carb to efi, although it was the 2.0 to an efi eclipse 2.0. you're going to need the whole engine wiring harness and ecu from the 4g64 truck. The 2.6 computer will not work and the wiring harness will be missing a ton of stuff.

got the ecu and the engine harness, which is only 2 plugs going into the harness in the cab on the drivers side, will I need the cab wiring harnes as well? I have not gotten this far to find out myself just yet, just looking to get some insight and possibly save myself some time down the road.

Best way to do it is with a complete donor PU. I went from a 2.6 to a 3.0 but I had a donor. There are a TON of things you will be needing. Big and small. Not just wiring but fuel as well. You will need a gas tank and lines from a EFI truck.

Hey guys, got the electrical finished up (a bit of a headache but not too bad), fuel system cased... went to drop the new motor in and the oil pan needs about 1 more inch of clearance to fit past the front diff... I haven't taken it off yet to see what kind of space I have for modification but does anyone know if there were different oil pans for the 2wd and 4wd trucks for the 2.4L?

Mitsubishi dealer websites only show one pan for the 2.4 from what I see.

If they are like the 2.6 the pan should be notched to clear the diff.

Hey guys, Got the motor in and everything hooked up this weekend. Went to start it up and other than a couple of little quirks everything works well until I went to fire it up. I'm not getting any spark so I immediately started at the coil and came across my first big issue. Once the power is turned on both side of the coil are hot... anyone have any ideas? Coil or something further back in the wiring? I'll be checking the schematics tomorrow to see if there's anything that I missed just wondering if anyone had any ideas. Thanks!!!
