Hi, Romans117 - Welcome to the forum.

Fuel tanks are indeed hard to come by, and I've heard there are not many new ones available. Your only recourse is to search the local junk yards. I have the same problem, in that I'll need to locate one sooner or later in order to replace the fuel pump: the studs on top are beyond repair.

However, a machine shop might well be able to fix that. Not sure what your specific problem is, but if you can post about it, some of the forum guys will have a plausable fix for it, or a suggestion that might help. Best of luck, and let us know how you fare.

Rust and a ton of it. Replaced the fuel pump and new strainer. New fuel filter. Cleaned out the tank. The truck set for six years with fuel in it. In about three weeks it clogged my injectors. Replaced the injectors and the rail was full of rusty fuel. Cleaned it out. New fuel filter. It will be just a matter of time before it happens again. Does anybody sell a new tank? Seams like there are a ton of the other Mitsubishi tanks out there. Sealer for the tank? I can't comprehend how you could seal the inside of a tank but I have been amazed before.

No chance of modifying a Gen 1 tank or something else of a similar size and mounting it in place of the standard tank? It might only need a couple of custom tank hangers and some creativity with the fuel filler hose and pick up pump. Maybe drop your tank out and get some measurements, you might get lucky and find a bigger capacity tank that will go under the tray.

the 2nd gen and 1st gen tanks are totally different - not even close. You could mount a fuel cell in place of the old tank, or find one that fits between the frame rails in the back behind the bumper - there should be threads on here on how to do that.

I've heard good things about the fuel tank refinishing, just have to find a place near you. This may help:

Went with red-kote. Worked out pretty good. Followed the directions. Time will tell if it works. Putting it all back together tomorrow. I let it cure four days.
