first time d50 owner in alaska
Hello all, new to this forum and d50s. Ive always played with full size dodges and dakotas. just picked up a 84 d50 4x4 with the 4d55 diesel. Got it running after sitting for 15 years but she has a rod knock so she will have to come out for a rebuild.

Hi and welcome to mightyram. Pretty impressive to get the diesel running after sitting so long, even with the rod knock. I would imagine Alaska isn't kind to most vehicles - what's the story behind the truck being laid up off the road for well over a decade?

thank you. yea it didnt take much to get it running. the guy i bought it from which i got a great deal on, had said he overheated it and thought he blew the head gasket so he parked it and never got back to it. i got her going and found no signs or symptoms of a bad head gasket at all. no white smoke no burnt antifreeze smell, no blowing bubbles in the radiator or filling the crankscase with water so im not sure what gave him the idea it blew out, but i heard that knock in the bottom end so at this point i guess it doesnt matter if the gasket is bad or not, haha, just hoping to not find any cracks or warps in the head. but i brought her home for 50 bucks so i cant complain to much

For 50 big ones you can't expect too much. A bargain for a complete ram! If you can wrench on it yourself you will be able to get it running reliably without having to auction off any organs. Hopefully finding spares to patch it up isn't a headache where you are.
