Building a new motor redoing a head with Jet valves should a guy keep them or plug them? Any advantage to them of just dog and pony stuff?
Head studs worth the price they want for them?

Hey, Law Dog~
I've never had to deal with jet valves, but all knowledgeable mechanics I've ever talked to say they were more trouble than they were worth. There's a kit you can buy to eliminate them.
I've also been advised that the original head bolts are fine to re-use.
By all means, collect some more opinions.
The greatest gift you have to give to the world is that of your own self~transformation.
I will block them think its just a feel good emissions gimmick anyways, the stud kit that replaces the head bolts says they can be reused 5X if I read it right, not that I want to tear it down that many times! LOL
With the frequent head gasket problems they have I thought if it helps any it would be worth the $120.00 cost.
Thanks
the 2.6 head bolts are torque to yield and are not reusable. the ARP head stud kit also gives you a torque spec that is higher than the head bolts for a better seal. Well worth the cost - if you scour ebay, you can find them cheaper than 120. If you have the head off the eliminators are a good idea - it eliminates a cause of head cracking.

The jet valves were only a part of the problem. They can burn out and also stop sealing adequately which will cause oil consumption issues much like a normal valve seal will when they fail. The biggest issue are the heads themselves. To accommodate the jet valves and internal galleries, the castings have all these cavities and increased stress points in the combustion chambers.
Will order both and get them on the way~
Thanks Jerry
never heard of g54 or g63 head bolts being torque to yield. Most 80s motors were not
LOTS of folks reuse them on starions... and that's with boost. Some past 20psi on cheap felpro gaskets
Are the truck bolts different ?
A machinist starion clubmember said was very common for g54 decks to be out of spec.... causing sealing/gasket issues

manual says the head bolts on G54b motors are torque to yield, the g63b motors are not, and can be reused.

Yes I see a lot to where they say the G54B needs new bolts every time the head is pulled! The studs you can use over a few times.
Found the jet valve plugs on Amazon for 1/2 the shipping the maker wanted, I got 2 sets as I have another head that need to be rebuilt!
