    Drop/Wheels/Diff

I am making steady progress and in no hurry. I'm enjoying this.

So had the wheel centers and hubs powder coated semi-gloss black. Installed some ARP wheel studs, not cause I wanted to but had to install longer ones cause of the new wheels. Also, you can see the hub centric rings I got. The fit perfectly. IMG_0052.jpg

The diff is almost ready. 3:55. The pinion bearings has been pre-loaded to factory spec. It has a limited slip. Not that it needs one but what the heck. Waiting for a seal and I'll finish it up.

I have one of the drop spindles in. I'll take some pics tomorrow.

Made these pins today. They are locating pins for the diff. The dark colored ones are after heat treating. Don't know what I would without my lathe.Diff Locating Pin.jpgDiff Locating Pins.jpgDiff Locting Pin 1.jpg

Almost there guys. Spent 1/2 the day setting the axles. Getting them right is a little bit of an art form. I had to fabricate my own shims.
I have to fabricate one more brake line. Part of what needs to be done installing drop spindles.

Well, done, I think. Haven't driven it yet. I'll take it in for an alignment next week sometime. You guys see the outside. It was a tremendous amount of work which I enjoyed thoroughly.
    Hope it drives OK.

No problem - glad I could help. I have a line on the exact same looking truck about a mile from my house. This dad found it in Suffolk Virginia in a garage under a cover for 25 years - looks good, but has a bad carb. I want to swap him my 86 project truck before he hacks it up to put a sbc in it - truck is too clean and rare all stock like that.

Looking good! What kind of drop are you using and what is your wheel/tire set up?

The one in the pic is a 2-3 inch leaf spring drop. No blocks.

I subsequently put the stock springs back on and am using 2" blocks for the rears. I did remove the helper spring for a little bit better ride.
The fronts I'm using 2" drop spindles.
Tires are 215/50/16 rears and 205/50/16 fronts. No rub.
The wheels I just happen to find on-line. They are Panasport 8 inch wide with 0 offset.

Ok, now I got it. To tell you the truth can't remember.
    They are ARP. 12X1.5
I took a measurement of the knurled part of the stock stud and than used that info when ordering.
There website is very easy to navigate and will show the knurled diameter of every stud.
