    Not Starting (SOLVED, I Think)

hi, my name is bob, been lurking for a while, i bought my mighty max a few months ago and have slowly been getting it up and running. its a 1990 2.6 4speed auto, i got mine off a farm in nj with only 36000 miles on it! after plugs, wires, new air filter(didnt have one, just a rag stuffed in it) oil change and a lot of cleaning, its ran great. this week it doesnt want to kick over now. gonna do a fuel filter if it doesnt rain tomorrow. any other suggestions as to stuff i should look at?

Did you put a cap and rotor in it? You might have got some water in something.

i did do a cap and rotor, that was prob 6 weeks ago. it was running fine until last weekend. changed the fuel filter today, didnt seem to get any better. if i step on the gas a little bit, it starts up. i looked at the cap n rotor i installed, and that looked good.

so its completly dead now. my dad thinks it could be an ignition module. any thoughts on that? he better be right cause its stuck out front of his house now! the truck cranks strong like it wants to start, either no spark or fuel? im hoping to get it back to my house tomorrow to try n work on it some more.

Easy way to check spark. step 1- Remove spark plug wire from spark plug. Step 2- insert screwdriver into boot. Step 3- hold screwdriver about 1/2" from any metal of the engine. Step 4- have someone crank the engine. Step 5-look for spark between Screwdriver and engine, if no spark then the module is probably shot. CAUTION: HOLD SCREWDRIVER BY HANDLE BECAUSE IF THERE IS SPARK YOU'RE GOING TO GET ZAPPED!!!!

so i has no spark, i took it to a budy of mine that has a shop, he has tried multiple things including coil, key tumbler, ignition mod, and im sure more that he has said. he thinks its a bad computor, or a short in the wiring. it has no spark and no fuel pressure. its killin me.

crank or cam position sensor is the first thing I would go to.

here is a remanufactured computer for $354 http://www.usautoparts.net/catalog/?...921+4294964709. this site has a lot of things for mighty max's and d-50's. i would definetly check your cam and crank sensors first before buying a new computer. hope the link helps.

If its a 2.6, it don't have a cam sensor or crank sensor. Is it carbed or fuel injected? if carbed, the computer controls the carb only. 1989 was the last year for the 2.6; if it is a 2.6, its been swapped; more likely its a 4g64 2.4 l - look at the tag on the firewall.

I used Foreign Auto Computer Repair in Zephyrhill, FL after they were highly recommended by a local Mitsubishi shop. He has been using them for years. With 2nd day postage, they rebuilt mine for a '90 3.0 for $215. and I had it back within a week. I've also called them for advice on a couple of other trucks and found them very helpful. I would definitely use them again.

i dont have an extra key to the truck and its at my friens shop, im looking for the ecu part number anyone know it? 1990 2.4l fuel injected auto 4 speed. ive been looking and came up with 3 different part numbers, trying to make sure i get the right one. md143273, md144743, and md155029. i think the last one is correct, but im not 100percent sure. i really cant wait to get my truck back to start lowering it.
