    4x4 and 4x2 Transmission compatibility

Might have to replace my tranny depending on what the diagnosis is. 88, 4x4, 2.6. Will a tranny out of an 88, 4x2, 2.6 be compatible if I do need to replace? I am of assuming they wont due to transfer case pairing, but there is a lot more knowledge here that I don't have. Cheers.

The fact it's a manual could be pertinent here. Though I have never seen an auto MM or d50 around.

    LSR Mike-- thanks!

pennyman-- oooof, but so pricey for a rebuilt. would rather try to rebuild myself first I think if it comes to that, but my hopes are that it is just the shift linkage, which seems possible at this point.

I agree, but it is an option, especially if you find out your tranny isn't rebuildable and you can't find another.

Most definitely! The truck was free anyhow so I don't have anything into it. Though I just got an 87 for parts locally and it seems to have a good tranny
