Is there any chance at all?

I know that I want a 2wd truck over my current 4x4 (the transfer case is stuck in 2wd anyway). So, now I am wondering if I'd be able to take the G54B from my truck and swap it into a 1986 2wd manual truck that appears to have the 2.0 that I've found in CL. From what I can tell, the year of the 2wd means that it'll have a narrow block transmission whereas my 1984 4x4 with a 2.6 will have a wide block transmission. Is this correct? And if so is there anything I can do?

Source a 5 speed from a 2WD with a 2.6 + the tail shaft (not 100% sure if there is a difference in the output shafts of the transmissions). The 4G63 is a 'better' engine when compared to the 2.6 but the 4G54 will have more torque...

I know there's more performance potential out of the 4g63, but the one in the car is not running for unknown reasons and I figured i have a g54b on hand (albeit in my current truck) so it could be a potentially quick fix. I will be keeping an eye out for a wide block 2wd transmission. Any idea how easy they are to find/what vehicles I should be looking for them in?

Your 2.6 is the stronger motor stock or a little modified, I'd rather have it over the sluggish 2.0. But no you will need to find a wide block tranny to bolt up to your 2.6
