I've had a few cable clutch cars with that problem before. Normally I cut 2 plates of 1/16" steel as large as I can flat to the fire wall with a large hole in each to the original cable bracket to fit thru. I That lets them sandwich the original fire wall between them. Rather than weld them in I normally bolt them together with a couple of 1/4 20 bolts.
