Rear end options and upper control arms

I have a 95 MM I'm trying to figure out if
-the 1st gen montero sport rear is a bolt in affair ?
-what size wheel would I have to run to use that rear
-what's the track difference on the Montey vs the MM?
    - how hard is it to put a locker in an open diff?

    For the upper control arm
    - can I use the Monty uppers or is there an after market upper that takes the bolt in style ball joints ?

I have been searching but there seems to be a lot of conflicting or lack of info on what I do find, any help would be great

1st gen rear is a bolt in, but the gear ratios may be 4.22 instead of 3.91 - you would have to change out both front and rear diffs then. Not sure if the 95 MMM has an 8" or 9" rear - if 9" rear a 2nd gen monty has the right size, but is a coil spring and arms setup - you can swap the center section and disc brakes onto the truck axle. the monty axle is 1" wider than the truck diff. 15" and up for the 1st gen, 16 for 2nd gen with disc brakes. you need the 2nd gen monty upper arms for the 95 truck - 1st gen arms are the same as the truck arms.

As long as the monty is leaf spring you can swap over. Pretty sure the I4 MM had 8" rear axle. The V6 MM have 9" rear. Swapping over disc's is not an easy affair either. You would have to do some welding and pressing of bearings etc. Your best bet is to find one out of a 97-99 Sport that is leaf sprung (hard to come by). Depending on if its a 3.0 or 3.5L you can grab a 9" rear or the 9.5". I got lucky last month and came across the 9" that is a direct bolt on for my v6 MM. Sometimes they come with LSD in them or with air lockers. Mine didn't but I already have a LSD that I will toss into the 3rd member.

Ok on the uppers my truck is 2wd 4g64 is that an issue, I can get the Monty sport rear I work at a truck salvage yard and there are two in the yard now sadly no LSD but both leaf, idk about the disk now I don't really want to be forced to 16's just for rear disk ha

I thought you had a 4wd - the Montero uppers won't work. You can buy replacement stock arms, but they are press in ball joints

seeing is believing for me lol, not that I don't trust Its just hard to find info for most of this stuff, I been looking and its like one person says this is the stipulation and others say it will work straight up, I just don't want to spend on something that im not using right away or that will hold up my plans, I can get the rear for like 30ish but none are lsd

Im not home at the moment, but here you go. I have these exact wheels on my Max. They are 15". I pulled them off my 95 SR Monti with rear discs. Plenty of clearance.

Why would you want to run any smaller? You get crap choices for tires.

Sorry if I caused any confusion - I must have been thinking about 3rd gen monteros and 16" wheels.

ok one more question will the coil spring rear gears fit in the leaf sprung rear, I can get a open diff rear but I want a locker, if I find a locker in a coil spring rear can I just swap out the guts to the open leaf spring rear?

9" diffs interchange. 9.5's also interchange amongst themselves. Make sure you know the difference.

Your current stuff works. You can upgrade if you like as it would be a slight improvement. I wonder what 15s you are ruining because mine clear. Grab the e-brake lines too. Yoke won't work. Not sure what you need for your specific swap.

We have a link to sites that can give you specific fitments for your tires and wheels. Cars and trucks have the stock size wheels and there is also the oversized wheel specifications that are available. This usually gives you the biggest set you can install without carving them up. Also roll the fender a bit to secure a safe fit if you like. This will make sure even if they possible tap the edge occasionally, it will not shred them.
