Finding a VSS signal
Ok, little background, I'm running a turbo 4g63t(mitsu eclipse) engine in my truck with the 4g63t ECU also. Well I need to get the truck Smog Certified and there needs to be no check engine light/codes being put out. Well anyways the ECU is reporting a VSS(Vehicle Speed Sensor) code, but problem is the trucks don't really have a vehicle speed sensor in them(that I have found reading through my FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL, although the 4wd versions do seem to have one) to hook up to the Eclipse ECU. I was wondering if anyone here had some input on how I could send a signal to the ecu to simulate a VSS? I bought a gearbox probe that would supposedly simulate and send a signal to the ECU but it doesnt seem to be working as the code is still popping up.
Thanks for any help

try to locate the speed sensor from a starquest - it was used for the cruise control and screwed onto the stub where the speedo cable attaches when the sensor isn't there. Be sure the speedo cable matches the output of the sensor - auto and manual cable ends at the tranny are different and must match the sensor for the speedo to work.

if your idea works thats very swap info worthy for someone that plans on a cali legal swap.

The signal comes out of the instrument cluster, I had the same code on my 90 when my speedometer cable broke.

But if he doesn't have the right cluster - the starquest sensor could work, althought the pulses per revolution could be off for the computer to use. There are also vss that are used with megasquirt and the like that may work.

Ok I got the gearbox probe I had bought to work and it is sending a signal to the ECU now, might not be the correct engine speed but the ecu doesnt use the vss for anything engine related anyways. Thanks for the help guys and also the suggestion for the Starion sensor, I would have tried that next if I couldn't get this to work.

on my truck it uses the vss to lower idle when the vehicle comes to a stop
