An adjustable cam gear will work and it's a lot safer to use on Mitsubishi non-interference heads like the 2.0/2.4. It will only shift the torque band up or down depending on how you set it. I think it comes down to trial and error with altering the cam timing. It won't make big 'power' by itself but if you mess with ignition timing and add the usual mods (porting, headers + exhaust, increased air/fuel flow capacity etc) it all adds up. I've long held the belief there is plenty of hidden power in these engines without having to do anything radical to them.
